You probably already know the big news for 2022 involving the logistics to reach the central area of Lake Como: the famous provincial road SS340 that links Argegno to Menaggio is currently closed to cars and pedestrians in the stretch of coast of Colonno, until March 29th, 2022.

This is due to the works by ANAS, which is starting the setting up of the so called (and strongly awaited) “Variante Tremezzina”, a series of new tunnels aimed at speeding up the traffic flow in the narrowest parts of the lakeside. The tunnel is expected to run without exits from Colonno to Griante: it’s going to be a major project, with a 10 years construction timescale.

Boat service (for pedestrians only)

The fast boat service between Menaggio and Como now includes in its timetable an additional hydrofoil that makes 4 extra trips, with the extension of some of them up to Colico.

The ferry service will be carried out by 4 ferries and will cover the time slot from 4.50 to 00.10. There’s a free shuttle boat that connects the public boat docks of Argegno and Sala Comacina from 5 am to 9.45 pm.

C10 Bus Line

The C10 bus line between Como and Menaggio will be divided into two sections: Como-Argegno and Sala Comacina-Menaggio, which will be connected to each other by a free lake shuttle between Argegno and Sala Comacina offered by the public boat service.

The full boat trip takes around 40 minutes.

Car route 1: Argegno-Valle Intelvi-Porlezza-Menaggio

The first way to reach Menaggio by car once arrived to Argegno from Como on SS340, is to drive through Valle Intelvi on SP13. Once reached San Fedele Intelvi you’ll have to drive down to Porlezza on SP14.

From Porlezza, continue along SS340 road to Menaggio.

Car route 2: Como-Bellagio and then ferry to Menaggio

With this second option, if you come from SP583 road from Como to Bellagio, you can take the car ferry from Bellagio to Menaggio or to Cadenabbia.

Car route 3: via Lugano

In this case, the route passes through Switzerland, along highway 2 (E 35) to Lugano, and then continues along the SS340 road to Menaggio.
