Local markets on Lake Como are an explosion of colors and scents: you can find stalls selling pretty much everything, from 100% local food (like cheese, cold cuts, fresh fish and seasonal vegetables) to shoes and accessories, flowers, décor objects, craft products, pots, antiques, underwear for men and women, house linens… and much more!

These markets are some kind of never-ending traditions, as well as a must-see event for those many tourists coming to the lake.

As you can see in our infographic below, every village on Lake Como has a fixed day on which the market is held, from Monday to Saturday. In general their location is directly on the shores of the lake, or in the main piazza of the village. The majority of these markets is held during the morning, but in some cases (like in Como on Saturday) they can last until the late afternoon.

Weekly markets on Lake Como have a long tradition behind

Since the ‘30s of the XX century, on Tuesday, the inhabitants of the villages in Tremezzina used to sell their butter at the market in Lenno. The same goes for Argegno: the farmers from Pigra used to go to the market directly on foot from the mountain (according to some theories, the name Pigra, literally “lazy”, can be linked to the fact that these farmers took quite a lot of time to reach Argegno on foot, this way being always late).

Especially in the past, the local markets at Lake Como have always been a moment of social gathering for all villages.

The special markets in Como

Como hosts quite a lot of markets.

The “Mercato Mercerie” is held on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday morning, along the walls from viale Battisti to viale Varese.

The Mercati CortoBio (exclusively with local and bio producers) are held every Saturday morning in Como-Rebbio, in the Missionari Comboniani park in Via Salvadonica 3.

In the charming San Fedele square (one of the oldest and most picturesque of the city) is held the antiques market the first Saturday of each month, and the craft market on Saturday for the second, third and fourth week of the month: here you can find clothes, hand-made soaps, gift ideas, hand-crafted objects of many kinds.

During the year, picturesque markets are occasionally held too, under the walls or in the Lake area.
